Ellie M.!

Congratulations, Ellie! You’ve got $100 for our one-stop camping gear shop coming your way! Some fun was certainly had among the Mama T cabin girls of Sky Ranch. Read her account of summer camp right here:

TORPEDO
A WAY COOL STORY ABOUT BRAVING THE DEEP
“Do you have your towel and your water bottle?” asked one of my three counselors, (I can’t remember who it was) Hallie, Hannah, or Heather. Molly was taking a few days off due to an allergic reaction.
“Yes,” chorused my cabin, Mama T of Sky 1.
“Okay. Let’s go outside to put on shoes,” said Heather. We followed her out of the cabin and into the blazing hot sun. I was sweating like crazy already. Luckily, we had a short walk and soon I would be feeling the warm water of the lake on my feet.
We were going to Torpedo!
I slipped on my Natives and followed the rest of the cabin down to the lake. As we walked, we chanted, “M-A-M-A, Mama T! Mama T! M-A-M-A, Mama T! Mama! When you look outside our door, you will see the number four. But we’re really number one, and the fun has just begun!”
After jumping down wooden steps, we reached the dock and walked over to Torpedo. After hearing the rules, one group got onto the banana boat.
Seeing how fast they were going, I got butterflies in my stomach.
I walked over to my counselor Hallie and said this:
“Um, Hallie, I’m really nervous to go on the torpedo.”
Hallie promised me that she’d go on with me. By now, the first group was back and the second group was getting on. My nerves turned to excitement.
Fifteen minutes later, that group was back and it was my turn. I strapped on my helmet and walked onto the boat. It wobbled and I sat in the front row. After everyone was on, it got fast.
Smiling, I gave the driver a big thumbs-up, signaling to go faster. She sped up, but a bit too fast for me and my friend Emery. Emery fell off and I fell off on top of her. Emery’s helmet floated away, and we swam to get it. We clapped our hands to show that we were okay. Laughing, we chatted for a bit until they came to get us.
After we fell off, we went back to the dock. Torpedo was a wonderful experience for me, and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.
The End
Awesome, Ellie! The Torpedo sounds like a thrill, for sure! Glad you got the chance and that you will in many summers to come! Nakanawa's $50 Winner

Hey, Camp Fans!

It’s the Everything Summer Camp ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest! We’re in full swing for this year, announcing our lucky winners and sharing their stories right here on the Blog. Today, I’m announcing the last of our $50 gift certificate winners! Today’s winner is….
Camp in style like the rest of the campers who have attended Camp Nakanawa and join the tradition!
Olivia S.!

Congratulations, Olivia! You win a $50 gift certificate to our one-stop camping gear shop! Olivia gives us the inside scoop on her time camping in Tennessee at Camp Nakanawa. Read about it in her Contest entry right here:

My name is Olivia. I am nine years old. My past camp experience was going to Camp Nakanawa in Crossville, Tennessee for two weeks. My cabin had seven girls and one counselor. We had girls in my cabin from all over the United States such as Indiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi.
Camp had many activities but my favorite activity was diving. Diving was my favorite activity because I got to jump off of a diving board. I won the diving award for my team. Some of my other favorite activities were horseback riding, archery, nature hut, and rock wall climbing.
The food there was very good. My favorite meal was grunch. That is when everyone in camp has a sandwich and chips for dinner. My favorite camp tradition was when they served chocolate pie for dessert. We call it backwards pie because you save the tip of the pie for last and make a wish before you eat it. At Nakanawa we are very big with manners.
You don’t want to be caught with elbows on the table or your napkin not in your lap.
There are two teams at camp, Valkyries and Amazons. I am a Valkyrie. Our colors are blue and brown. Amazon’s colors are red and white. We have competitions in all sports and activities. The team with the most points wins for the camp term.
When I had to leave camp, it was very hard. I did not want to leave all my camp friends. I was happy to see my family, though. I cannot wait to go back to camp next year.

So cool, Olivia! It’s great to hear that your camp experience was such a positive and absorptive one! May your summers bring many more camp memories to come and long live the Valkyries! To anybody else interested in Camp Nakawana, check it out by clicking right here and, as always, thanks for reading!

Lily E.!

Congratulations, Lily! You win a $50 gift certificate to our one-stop camping gear shop! Even though Lily is only six, this was already her second year at summer camp. Lily attended a Mom & Me Day Camp with her mother Jessica at Camp Newaygo. Read about it in her Contest entry right here:

Hi, I’m Lily. I am six years old. I have a story to tell you about my favorite camp, Camp Newaygo. This was my second time going there for Mom & Me Camp, and it was really fun. You can meet a lot of new friends there, and there is a lot to do there. You can do tie dye and you can go kayaking and canoeing and lots of stuff. I really liked Mom & Me Yoga and the rock climbing wall. It was really fun to do that at camp. I hope to go back next year.

In the cabins there are bunk beds that you can sleep on. You can eat dinner and lunch and breakfast there – the food is really good! For my first day at camp, there was pizza for lunch and I had 4 pieces. It was really good- YUM! Breakfast is good too!

There are pottery and animal classes that you can learn about animals. Next year I am going to take fencing, arts and crafts and I might be doing drama. Camp is great for little kids and big kids who really want to learn new things. I’m definitely going to tell my friends about Camp Newaygo, and maybe they can come with me too. It’s going to be really fun to go back to Camp Newaygo next year!

So cool, Lily! It’s great to hear that you’re already getting into the summer camp spirit as much as you have! How nice of an idea to attend camp with your mother! Sounds like you both had a lot of fun. Keep the camp fun going as long as it lasts! To anybody else interested in Camp Newaygo, you can check it out by clicking right here and, as always, thanks for reading!

Imaginative Pathfinder $50 Winner!

Posted on

Hey, Camp Fans!

The ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest is in full swing for this year. We’ve been announcing our lucky winners and sharing their stories right here on the Blog throughout September. And today, I’m announcing our first of the three $50 gift certificate winners! Today’s winner is….Pathfinder is a great way to make friends and have fun!

Alexander M.!

Congratulations, Alexander! You’re our first $50 prize winner! Alexander played a really interesting, new game this summer with his friends at Pathfinder Camp. Read about it in his Contest entry right here:

Pathfinder: Springboard for the Imagination

Spending my summer days as camper, CIT, and then counselor at Pathfinder Country Day Camp in Montauk, I have many great memories. However, the memories I cherish the most were the ones that inspired my imagination to run wild. My brother and I were in a small friend group of four. So naturally, when Harrison, the leader of the friend group, had a new game for us to play, we complied. However, this game was different. There were no cards, pieces, or video game cartridges necessary. The game was all in our imagination.

Harrison stated our origin story and gave us all classes. The game was similar to Dungeons and Dragons, but less planned and more subjective. Everyone got a separate turn with almost endless possibilities. One could battle an enemy, visit a town, learn a spell, talk to people, adventure into a dungeon, etc. While your fortune and misfortune were heavily dependent on Harrison’s mood, the game was fair enough to be fun. Many other kids were intrigued and joined in. Turns often intertwined, allowing our imaginative selves to work together. For example, one time my brother got sick and needed a healing talisman. However, after obtaining the talisman he got possessed by a spirit and had to be saved by our other friend, Charlie.

A child’s imagination is a powerful tool. I never got the same experience at school. Only Pathfinder helped foster the right environment for such imagination and life-long bonds between friends.

This game is intriguing to say the least, Alexander! How cool that you and your friends can devote yourselves to the same plane of imagination as one another! Glad your time at Pathfinder Day Camp was a success! If Pathfinder sounds like the right camp experience for you, give it a closer look by clicking here. Tune in tomorrow when I reveal who our next winner is. As always, thanks for reading!

$25 Camp Story Winner from Falling Creek

Posted on

Hey, Camp Fans!

The end of summer’s always bittersweet, but year-after-year, we’re excited here at Everything Summer Camp to keep with our traditional ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest! We saw an excellent response with your submissions since we’ve upped the ante this year, making the grand prize $250.  Falling Creek Camp is a place where fun abounds every summer season!

Today we have the last of our $25 winners. And that winner is….

Will H.!

Congratulations, Will! You’re our fourth $25 prize winner! Will had a great summer stay at Falling Creek Camp this year as he has for the last three years as well! Read all about it in his entry right now:

Hi! I'm Will Henry and my summer camp is Falling Creek in the mountains of North Carolina. I just finished my 4th summer at camp, and it was better than ever!

My favorite activity at camp was paddling. After a few lessons on strokes, we headed down the Green River in canoes. It was fun! I loved navigating the rapids. Some were challenging but after I made it through, I felt proud of myself. I sure didn't want to fall in and get wet because the water is cold!

Camp activities are great but what I love most is the friendships I've made over the years. Each year, I catch up with my camp buddies from all over the United States. I hope to stay close to these boys forever. Maybe some day we will end up in college together or back at Falling Creek as counselors!

I pack all of my clothes and gear in my Happy Camper trunk. My trunk rocks! I'm the oldest of 5 kids so to stay organized, my mom has color-coded each of my siblings' stuff. My color is blue, so guess what color my trunk is? Yep, it's blue! Each year, as I collect stickers when I travel and play sports, I add them to my trunk. I love looking at my trunk and instantly seeing reminders of my life's adventures!

Thanks Everything Summer Camp for keeping us well-supplied for our summer days!

Thanks again for your submission, Will! We’re delighted to hear that summer camp was such a thrill and brought you pride. It’s so cool that you have friends from all over that you can see at least once a year! Glad you love that blue Happy Camper! If anybody else is interested in checking out Falling Creek Camp, do it by clicking here. Be sure to tune in tomorrow as we continue to reveal our Contest winners and, as always, thanks for reading!
