With everyone gathered outside the cabin, waiting to embark on a day-long trip through the rugged wilderness, a lone camper is still inside desperately searching through her gear and camp supplies for her bug spray—the pressure of holding up the company mounting. Just as she started to consider giving up, a fellow camper came back for something and noticed the first camper in distress.
“What do you need?” The second camper said. “Bug spray? Check it out. I have some extra you can use in my organizer.” She went into one of the many pockets on the Bunk Organizer that hung from her camp bunk and took out her surplus bug.
While it may not be listed on most camp packing lists, the Bunk Organizer has revolutionized the way campers keep their essentials tidy and accessible. With 16 pockets of various sizes, it's designed to hang vertically on the foot or side of a bunk, providing a convenient storage solution for all kinds of items you want handy.
The idea for the Bunk Organizer was born in the early 2000s when Matt, the Sales Director here at Everything Summer Camp, visited camps and noticed campers struggling to keep accessible all the items they want to keep close by over the course of the night: books, diaries, flashlights, bug spray, a watch, footwear, water bottle, inhaler, eyeglasses, or what have you!
He immediately recognized the need for a more versatile solution.
When Matt returned from his trip, he explained the difficulty he witnessed to our product development team when it came to these ‘nightstand items’. The team put their minds to the situation, conceptualized a new product, and created a solution to the struggle.
Matt has since seen the Bunk Organizer in action and can attest to its convenience at summer camp. “The Bunk Organizer has transformed cabin living for campers!” he told me. “It’s such a practical accessory that makes life away from home work a little better and saves them time from searching for misplaced items.”

]]>If you’re reading this Blog post, you probably already know, there’s lots of camping gear and other camp supplies to ensure your child brings along to summer camp. Packing for camp certainly can feel like a mountainous undertaking. But, instead of letting this full laundry list overwhelm you, let us ease your concerns and coach you on the best ways to manage your packing job.
Most people aren’t necessarily well-practiced at getting their child ready for summer camp—it only happens once a year, after all—and plenty of folks are completely new to the entire experience. The leading question people have is, “how do I know what my child needs for camp?”
Overnight summer camps usually publish their packing lists a few months in advance. This gives you ample time to review the list, gather your gear, and make any necessary purchases. So, as soon as you've registered for camp, keep an eye out for the packing list. Some camps will provide it on their website, while others may send it to you via email or regular mail.
Are you an early bird that wants to roll up their sleeves and get going on camp prep before your camp has published their official packing list? You're in luck! The internet offers an abundance of camp packing list guides. A quick online search will result in a multitude of generic packing lists that cover the essentials for various types of camps. I just posted a thorough guide on the Blog last year.
You may find that you still require some items when your camp does publish their list, but you’ll be able to cross plenty off your camp’s list that you got ahead of time.
Of course, you can always find your camp’s packing list right here without even leaving our website. Hey! When we say we’re your one-stop shop, we’re not just blowing campfire smoke! We offer updated packing lists from a ton of overnight camps. Finding your camp's list is a breeze—just click the blue 'find my camp' button at the top of our homepage (or click right here), and you're on your way!
Once you've selected your camp, you'll have access to a comprehensive packing list tailored to that camp's requirements. It's a great resource to ensure you're packing exactly what your camp recommends.
Now that you've secured your packing list, you can start preparing for camp and the earlier you begin your camp prep, the less stressful the process will be. Use your packing list as your guide and gather your items right here on our online store!
The final item to pack is your packing list itself! It’s a good idea to attach your packing list to the inside lid (if you have a camp trunk) or some visible spot in your container. Keeping your packing list around will make it easier to ensure that everything that went to camp is coming back!
Get a great head start on your camp prep with the information you’ve uncovered today and reduce the stress for yourself down the road! Thanks for reading, Folks. And, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>Have you ever spilled the beans before? It's not something you want to do at summer camp or anywhere really. This seemingly simple phrase, used when someone accidentally blurts out a well-kept secret, easily rolls off the tongue. But have you ever wondered why we say it to mean that somebody let something slip? Let’s delve into the interesting history behind the saying 'Spill the Beans' and figure out why we use this peculiar phrase.
Back in ancient Greece, beans were used as a voting tool so voters could remain anonymous. White beans represented positive votes, while black beans, were negative ones. The votes were all hush-hush--the results locked away in a container. If someone knocked over the container, the votes would be seen early and give away the results. The person responsible was said to have ‘spilled the beans’.
Now, let's fast-forward to the early 20th century in the United States. We can spot an early example of this phrase being printed in a June 1908 issue of The Stevens Point Journal. In that context, it meant something like "upset the applecart" or "spoil the beans," a nod to ancient Greece's voting system.
Then, another instance in October 1911, The Van Wert Daily Bulletin provided another instance of this saying being used. Here, the phrase started to imply "upsetting a previously stable situation by talking out of turn,"—that’s pretty much how we use it today.
It was just a few months back that I wrote a Blog post about the origin of the phrase “Let the Cat Out of the Bag”—very similar to today’s “spill the beans” saying. Learn where that phrase came from by clicking here. And next time you find yourself inadvertently sharing a secret or ‘spilling the beans,’ think back to those ancient Greeks and their voting legumes. Thanks for reading, Camp Folks! And, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>Stretching your way into serenity, yoga is like a breath of fresh air. It's more than just bending and twisting; it's about finding your inner balance and connecting with nature in the great outdoors. It’s all about harmony. But how did yoga come to be offered so regularly at summer camp and what makes it such a hit with campers?
Yoga’s roots go back thousands of years to ancient India, where it was developed as a practice to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Over time, yoga spread its influence the world over, transforming into various styles and practices. It wasn't until the 20th century that yoga found its way into the summer camp scene.
At camp, yoga offers a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. Campers gather in tranquil natural settings—often near a shimmering lake or under the shade of towering trees. They come together, creating a sense of community as they embark on a journey of self-discovery and mindfulness.
Just like in traditional yoga studios, camp yoga instructors guide campers through a series of poses and stretches, promoting flexibility, strength, and mental clarity. The practice emphasizes breathing techniques that help campers stay focused and centered, both on and off the mat.
But it's not just about the physical aspects. Camp yoga taps into the essence of what summer camp is all about—growth, connection, and exploration. It encourages campers to push their boundaries, both mentally and physically, while also providing a safe space to unwind and de-stress.
The popularity of yoga at summer camp continues to soar. Campers relish the opportunity to embrace yoga's holistic benefits, from enhancing physical fitness to nurturing emotional well-being. It's a practice that fosters unity, encourages self-acceptance, and instills a deep appreciation for the natural world.
So, whether you're a seasoned yogi or brand new to the practice, make sure to join in on a rejuvenating yoga session at camp this year. Experience the magic of yoga in the heart of nature, and discover a newfound sense of serenity and balance. Thanks for reading, and, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>Every four years, our calendars do something extraordinary—they gain an extra day! This day, February 29th, is a rare treat! To celebrate, we’re appropriately taking $29 off our camp trunks if you purchase your trunk today on Leap Day. Take your pick from our wide selection of our Traditional Steel Trunks, Designer Trunks, and even our Pop Up Soft Trunks.
Have you ever wondered why we call it a ‘leap’ year, though? After all, it doesn't seem like we're leaping anywhere, right? So why LEAP Day?
Well, the technical term for inserting extra time into a calendar is called ‘intercalation’—say that five times fast. I’m not even sure how to pronounce it one time! Since this word doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, people have opted to call it something a bit catchier. But how’d we land on the word ‘leap’?
Well, typically, as we move from year to year, a date will advance by one day of the week. For instance, if Christmas fell on a Sunday one year, you'd expect it to land on a Monday the next year, following a gradual, one-day progression.
During a leap year, however, something different happens. The calendar takes a bold leap ahead, advancing each date not by one, but by two days of the week! For example, this last Christmas graced us on a Monday. Fast forward to Christmas at the end of this year, 2024, and it will leap right over Tuesday and fall perfectly on a Wednesday!
So, the term Leap Year is essentially a nod to this phenomenon. It highlights the calendar's dramatic jump, where dates sprint ahead by two days, instead of their usual one-day stride.
But why do we need this extra day every four years? Well, our calendars work pretty well. They’re not perfect, though. In order to keep in sync with the cycles of heavenly bodies, we add this extra day to the end of February every four years.
So, the next time you witness this rare occurrence of February 29th on your calendar, remember that it's not just any day—it's a LEAP day, when our calendar makes a jump to keep pace with the grand cosmic ballet. Thanks for reading, Camp Folks. And, as always, Happy Camping!

Are you thinking of sending your child to camp but not sure if your child is ready to be away from home? Perhaps you ought to consider a day camp as opposed to an overnight camp. Both options offer unique experiences and benefits, and the choice largely depends on your child's personality, interests, and your family's needs.
In this Blog post, we'll explore the differences between day camp and overnight camp, along with the pros and cons of each, to help you make an informed decision.
Commute Convenience
Day camps typically involve dropping off and picking up your child daily. This convenience can be a significant factor for parents with busy schedules or those who want to be more involved in their child's daily activities.
Comfort of Home
Your child sleeps in their own bed, reducing homesickness and providing a sense of security.
Structured Day
Day camps often have a well-organized daily schedule with specific activities, allowing children to explore various interests.
Social Interaction
Your child has the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of peers and build friendships within your local community.
Cost-Effective
Day camps are generally more affordable than overnight camps since they don't include accommodation and meals.
Limited Immersion
Day campers miss out on the immersive experience of spending extended periods away from home, which can be character-building.
Shorter Duration
With day camps, the activities are limited to daytime hours, reducing the variety and depth of experiences.
Less Independence
Children may have fewer opportunities to develop independence and self-reliance compared to overnight campers.
Immersion and Independence
Overnight camps provide an immersive experience where children develop greater independence by taking care of themselves away from home.
Varied Activities
Campers have access to a broader range of activities, including outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, sports, and more.
Life Skills
Campers learn valuable life skills like decision-making, problem-solving, and teamwork in a supportive environment.
Lasting Friendships
Living together in a cabin fosters strong bonds, and camp friends often become lifelong friends.
Personal Growth
Overnight camps encourage personal growth by pushing campers outside their comfort zones and promoting resilience.
Homesickness
Separation from home can trigger homesickness in some campers, although many camps have effective strategies to help kids cope.
Cost
Overnight camps tend to be more expensive due to the extended stay, but scholarships and financial aid options may be available.
Less Family Time
Families have less time together during the camp session, which can be challenging for both parents and campers.
So, how do you decide between day camp and overnight camp for your child? Here are some factors to consider:
Child's Age and Maturity
Younger children may be more comfortable with day camp, while older, more mature kids might benefit from the extended experience of overnight camp.
Interests and Goals
Consider your child's interests and what they hope to gain from camp. Overnight camps often offer more specialized activities and skill development.
Independence Level
Assess your child's readiness for independence. If they're eager to explore new horizons and learn self-sufficiency, overnight camp may be a good fit.
Family Dynamics
Consider your family's needs and dynamics. If you have other children at home or specific commitments, day camp may be a more practical choice.
Camp's Reputation
Research the camp thoroughly. Read reviews, talk to other parents, and visit if possible to get a sense of the camp's culture and values.
Budget
Determine your budget and explore financial aid options if you're interested in overnight camp but concerned about costs.
In the end, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. It's essential to communicate openly with your child, involve them in the decision-making process, and choose the camp that aligns with their interests and developmental stage.
Whether day camp or overnight camp, both options offer valuable opportunities for personal growth, skill-building, and unforgettable summer memories. Make sure your camper has a great camp experience this summer. Thanks for reading and, as always, Happy Camping!

Your camp stories for the Everything Summer Camp ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest were all so great! I had such a fun time reading through them all and have been hard at work, publishing each one of them right here on the Blog to share with all our readers! We’ve been at it for several months now, but we still have a few stories more to share.
The following entry came from Landon W. who wrote in to us to tell about his time this summer at Camp Weaver in North Carolina. Read his submission right now:
“My name is Landon, I am 11 years old and I went to Camp Weaver this summer. The best part of camp was meeting new people, making new friends and getting to do really cool activities. My favorite activity was ropes course. The counselors were really encouraging and I was proud of myself for doing really well on the elements. I liked getting up on the ladder, being attached to the harness, dropping and swinging.”
Cool, Landon! I think that the best part of summer camp is often times the people you meet! It’s great to hear that you enjoyed meeting new people and making so many good friendships. It’s really nice when there are good folks around you supporting and encouraging you through challenging activities. Nice job conquering the ropes course! Sounds like loads of fun at Camp Weaver, Landon. Thanks for sharing this submission with us.

I’ve finished announcing our ten lucky winners who took larger prizes and we’ve now moved on to the rest of your submissions.
The following entry is from Eleanor L. who wrote in to us after her third year at Camp Alleghany. Here is her submission right now:
“Hi my name is Eleanor and this was my 3rd summer at the best summer camp ever, Camp Alleghany. Camp is located in beautiful WVA on the banks of the Greenbrier River. Every summer is different and better because you get to learn something new. This summer I became obsessed with Archery. Archery is a challenge; you have to figure out how to hold the bow, string the bow, hold the arrow just right and then try and make the target. Now I didn’t always hit the target but boy did I try. It was just so much fun. I can’t wait to get back to Alleghany and make it off the 15 yard line.”
Hey Eleanor! Thanks for sending in this submission for our ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest here at Everything Summer Camp. I’m glad you found your home away from home among the banks of Greenbrier River at Camp Alleghany. I love Archery! I’m glad you’re so into it! Today's camp story submission comes from Charley H., who wrote in tell us about her fifth summer and her love for summer camp at Camp Wyonegonic.
“Camp has always been a huge part of my life. I started as an 8 year old in 2018, scared and never having been away from my parents. But over the next 3 1/2 weeks, I found a home at Wyo. I have come back ever since, and this year was my 5th summer. My camp friends are my closest friends in the world, and I have turned from a scared little 8 year old to a confident teenager. The camp spirit has and continues to encourage me to grow, surrounded by other girls from all around the world on the same journey. Camp is over now, but I am excited and ready for the 10 month wait, to spent just two months at home on the shores of Moose Pond.”
Thanks for submitting your camp story into us, Charley! It’s great to hear how much you’ve come to love your summer camp stays at Camp Wyonegonic over the years. Isn’t it funny looking back at your initial reaction to arriving at camp, compared to how excited you are when you arrive now?! ]]>If you’ve ever shopped our site before, then you already know—we’re Everything Summer Camp, your one-stop shop for everything on your child’s camp packing list. However, when we first started making trunks in 1987, we didn’t offer any camping gear or other trunk accessories at all.
Several years later we added wheels and then came our nameplates and padlocks a little further down the line. And for a long time these were the only three accessories we offered.
It was 20 years on before we added another accessory and the first one we added was the Snap-On Duffle which was our first product all about summer camp. Back then we had never sold a product that focused completely on summer camp. In fact, we weren’t even called Everything Summer Camp yet.
This duffle, however, was designed as an extension of a camper’s camp trunk to accommodate kids whose packing lists were just a bit too big for our trunks. Our original design for the Snap-On Duffle was only compatible with our Traditional Steel and Designer Trunks and we had another duffel—the Piggy Back—which was compatible with our Pop Up Soft Trunks.
No other duffel attaches perfectly to your camp trunk like our Snap-On Duffle found only here at Everything Summer Camp—the home of C&N camp trunks! Common for moving bulkier items like pillows and other bedding, this accompanying duffel is as simple as can be! It snaps onto our camp trunks within seconds so you can move both pieces as one!
Make transportation to and from your summer camp cabin as easy as possible with this cool idea that moves your trunk and duffle as one unit. Thanks for reading. And, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>The camper peered down from the zip line launch platform—the ground appearing impossibly far away. Courage wavered. Despite clear instructions from the cabin leader and reassurance of the safety and exhilaration, the child stepped back down. Understanding of the apprehension, the cabin leader gently told the camper that the choice to jump or not was all theirs.
The camper made the decision not to jump that day, which was fine. After all, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!
This saying is rather old. It was something people said more than 800 years ago! It basically means that you can show someone an opportunity or offer to help, but you can't force anything on anybody.
Now, the credit for this saying often goes to a cool medieval English poet named John Heywood. In 1546, he wrote it down in a book called "A Dialogue Containing the Number in Effect of All the Proverbs in the English Tongue." Catchy title, huh? In his book, it went like this: "Hurt not the horse, the more he is sought, the better he will be."
So what the heck does THAT mean?!
The idea here was simply that the horse's condition would naturally improve with proper care. However, the phrase later on evolved with the addition of the crucial second part: "but you can't make it drink." This second half emphasizes that even if you offer an opportunity, you cannot make a horse take advantage of it. People started using this phrase for matters outside the realm of horse care, applying to other people more than anything else.
Nowadays, this saying is used all the time to remind folks that while you can offer help or choices, you can't make anyone do something they don't want to do. So, when your little one heads off to summer camp, remember this saying and let them make the most of their adventure at their own pace!
Tune in next month when we dissect another famous saying, ‘Spill the Beans’. Thanks for reading, Folks. And, as always, Happy Camping!

“A favorite activity of mine at camp, was the ‘one wheel’. It is like a skateboard, but with only one big wheel. It is very hard to do, harder than riding a skateboard. It is more fun! I went fishing in the river and I caught two fish. We used old brisket for bait. The camp had a good view of the cliff wall by the river, especially from the hill top called ‘antenna’. I look forward to camp again next year!”
Hey, Ben. Thanks for writing into us. I think I’ve seen what you’re talking about before—the One Wheel. I bet it’s lots of fun, assuming you’re able to manage your balance. Sounds like you made it happen! Pretty impressive. Nice work! A job well done with your fishing as well. I’ll have to try the old brisket trick next time I’m out casting a line! Today's camp story submission comes from Hilary S., who wrote in tell us about her daughter, Lys, and her second year away at summer camp—Camp Louise.
“Lys loved her first year so much she could hardly wait to go back to overnight camp again this summer. One of my favorite memories is watching her gaze out the window as we drive the winding road up the mountain to camp. The wind blowing her lovely locks of blonde hair in her face, a smile so big and eyes wide with wonder and excitement for all that is yet to come. Oh, to be ten again and carefree living my best camp life...”
Thanks for submitting your camp story into us, Hilary! It’s great to hear that your daughter’s relationship with summer camp is right where you want it to be—hooked! Unfortunately, we can’t return to those carefree, ten-year-old days but seeing the experience through the fresh eyes of your daughter must be the next-best thing. Today’s post is from Cameron B., who wrote in to tell us about the party atmosphere at Laity Lodge Youth Camp. Check out today’s submission right now:
“My favorite part about camp would probably be the rave party. It was so fun and surreal and the flashing lights and loud music definitely made it memorable! I remember how I didn't wear my tennis shoes there and my slides kept sticking to the candy and drinks on the ground and I'd end up barefoot. It was very fun and I know that I will remember it for days to come, and think back on it when I come to camp again in upcoming years.”
Hey, Cameron! Thanks for sending in your submission to our camp story contest. It sounds like that rave party at Laity Lodge was a truly something else! What a night of flashing lights, loud music, and summer fun! I guess the folks at Laity Lodge Youth Camp really know how to show their campers a fun time. Deuter's journey began in a small town in Germany, where the founders shared a passion for creating high-quality bags that could withstand the rigors of outdoor exploration. With a commitment to innovation, durability, and functionality, Deuter quickly gained recognition for its exceptional craftsmanship and design.
Today, the brand is represented in a staggering 45 countries, a testament to its widespread popularity and reputation for excellence. But what about its journey in the United States?
It was nearly two decades ago when Deuter set its sights on the American market. In 2003, they established a location in Longmont, Colorado, and introduced their products to U.S. consumers. Despite the initial challenge of pronouncing the brand's name (it's "doy-ter," by the way), Deuter quickly made a significant impact on the American outdoor gear scene.
One of the key reasons behind Deuter's success is its dedication to quality and innovation. The brand consistently pushes the boundaries of what outdoor gear can achieve, incorporating cutting-edge materials and design techniques into their products. ]]>We have more great stories yet to share from the annual Everything Summer Camp ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest from last season! The camp stories we received were so great and they’ve been so much fun to publish each one right here on the Blog for all our readers online! We’re posting each submission right here on the Blog one by one!
We had ten lucky prize winners for our contest this year and since then I’ve been publishing the rest of your submissions. The following post is from Maya K. who wrote in to us about her time at Camp Tel Yehudah. Here it is:
“Camp has always been a big part of my life, this year I went to TY because I’m too old for my junior camp. My favorite memory of TY was the last night of seconded bloc, this was my favorite because our whole TY community was able to come together in one area and have one big sleepover. We watched movies and ate our remaining junk food and had our last night feel really special. Even though I stayed another bloc after that I was still able to look back and think highly of that night.”
Hi, Maya! I’m glad that Camp Tel Yehuda turned out to be a positive place for you to continue your days of summer camp beyond your junior camp. Simply based off your description of the camp-wide sleepover and movie night, it sounds like Tel Yehuda really knows how to show its campers a special, magical, and memorable experience.
For anybody else who may be interested in Camp Tel Yehudah, you can give it a closer look when you visit their website by clicking right here. Thanks for reading, Camp Folks. And, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>Your camp stories for the Everything Summer Camp ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest were all so great! I had such a fun time reading through them all and now I’m excited to be sharing them with all our readers here on the Blog! Since I’ve finished announcing our ten lucky winners who took larger prizes, I’ve moved on to the rest of your submissions and we’re posting each one, one at a time!
The following submission came from Ellison R. who had a great time during her camp stay at Camp Longhorn. Check out her story right now:
“This was the best year at camp yet! It was the first year on a water cabin, a cabin that is floating on the lake. Even though it's hot out, the breeze from the lake keeps you cool at night. I love camp and can't wait to see my friends each year. This year was my sister's 9th and final year as a camper, she and her cabin mates have been together since they were 8! Every year I count the days until camp and can't wait to go back and see all my friends and enjoy all the traditions that our mother also enjoyed!”
Wow, Ellison!! Your sister almost made it a decade of summers at camp! I wonder how many camp seasons you’ve attended, but I’m glad this was the best one to date! The floating cabin sounds very cool; I’m guessing that’s a big part of what made this year stand out as the best one yet. Keep enjoying your summers to come, Ellison. Thanks for your submission.
If anyone else wants to look into Camp Longhorn more, click here to check out their website and have a good look around. Maybe that’s where you’ll be heading next summer. As always, thanks for reading and Happy Camping!

The following post is from Chase B. who wrote in to tell us about his summer stay at Camp Wise in Ohio. Check it out:
“My name is Chase and I am 9 years old. This was my first time at overnight camp. I was so homesick the first few days, but my supervisor did so many things to make me feel better. One of the best things was she took me to visit where my mom signed her name at the camp when she was a kid! Then, she let me write my own name next to hers so it was like we were together. I loved learning how to do archery and boating. I can't wait to go back again next year, and this time my little brother is coming with me!”
What a sweet gesture from your supervisor, Chase—taking you to the place where your mom signed her name at camp. That must have made you feel a lot better. I’m glad that you ended up enjoying your stay at summer camp after you got past your homesick feelings. Archery and boating are some pretty cool activities! I’m glad you had a good enough time that you want to return for next year! Camp Wise must be a really special place.

]]>We received more than 50 entries for our ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest here at Everything Summer Camp and I’ve been happily plugging away at publishing each one of them right here on the Blog to share with all our readers!
Today's camp story submission comes from Kerrington J., who wrote in to give her camp experience at Gold Arrow Camp in California. Check it out right now:
“My brother had been to camp for two years so when I finally got to go, I was so excited. I was so nervous to leave my parents and brothers for a week but I was greeted with big smiles and was ready to go. I had the absolute best time at Gold Arrow. I instantly became best friends with my cabin and we did so many fun things. I even broke the record for getting through the "spiderweb" for girls. I missed my family a lot but I can't wait to go to back to paddle board, make new friends, knee board and beat my own time at the spiderweb! I absolutely love Gold Arrow camp (and the food) and all the friends I made.”
That’s so cool, Kerrington! I’m glad you had such a fun time for your first year of summer camp. Way to go with the ‘spiderweb’. That’s awesome that you need to compete with your own time now next year (assuming that’s still the record). I’m glad the fun of summer camp outweighed your feelings of homesickness—what with the activities, friends, and good food! Next year sounds like it’s sure to be just as much fun. Thanks for sharing, Kerrington.

]]>One of our standout creations is our LidSkinz Trunk Accessory—a product that started as a simple idea and evolved into a stunning way to make your camp trunk uniquely yours. How did we come to make such a cool accessory for your camp trunk? Well, it was a long road to become the product it is now…
This product began with a simple print on vinyl. We used to feed the vinyl printout through our laminate machine, applying a protective laminate covering. It required precision and skill to ensure the machine unrolled the laminate properly to apply it directly over the printout. There was next to no margin of error. Then, after the lamination, each LidSkinz was meticulously hand-cut with scissors!
As our methods advanced, so did LidSkinz. With the advent of our Designer Trunks—camp trunks that feature printed exteriors, LidSkinz were now printed directly onto the trunk's exterior metal, a shift that brought various results with different materials.
Initially, we printed on aluminum, which worked wonderfully. However, rising aluminum prices led us to explore alternatives. We experimented with hard plastic, which produced a matte effect, unlike the glossy finish our customers loved. Finally, we settled on steel, the same material as the rest of the trunk panels. This choice ensures consistency in appearance while maintaining the high-quality printing that characterizes LidSkinz.
The LidSkinz Trunk Accessory has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a vinyl print. In the end, this product isn't just another trunk accessory; it's an opportunity for campers to make a statement, showcase their creativity, and carry a piece of their identity with them to camp.
Enjoy creating a personalized top to your camp trunk. Check them out when you click right here and design your own. Thanks for reading and, as always, Happy Camping!

]]>Trading secrets and stories with your friends around a crackling campfire at summer camp the night before the camp talent show, someone leans in with a mischievous grin and shares a juicy piece of gossip. "I heard they're bringing in a world-famous magician for the show tomorrow night!" Your friends are excited from the news that night as you walk back to your cabin, but you wisely advise everyone to "Take that with a grain of salt."
We've all been in situations where we’re right to be skeptical and the phrase "take it with a grain of salt" comes in handy. It's a signal to approach information with caution, acknowledging that what we hear might not be accurate. It encourages you not to simply accept what you heard and hold back some reservation.
But have you ever wondered where this curious expression comes from?
Although "take it with a grain of salt" has been a common expression in the English language for centuries, its origins remain somewhat mysterious. Some linguistic historians trace it back to around 77 AD, attributing it to the Italian author and philosopher Pliny the Elder.
According to this theory, Pliny used the phrase while translating an antidote for poison from an ancient text. He mentioned, "be taken fasting, plus a grain of salt." This usage implied a cautionary approach to the antidote, advising not to place full faith in it.
Another theory suggests that the expression is relatively new, emerging in the 20th century. Interestingly, the phrase has undergone a minor variation in some parts of the world, with "take it with a pinch of salt" meaning essentially the same thing.
In either case, the essence of the phrase remains unchanged. "Take it with a grain of salt" is a timeless reminder that not everything we hear should be taken at face value. It encourages a thoughtful and cautious approach to information, reminding us that skepticism can be a valuable tool in navigating the sea of facts, rumors, and gossip that surround us.
So, the next time someone shares an incredible story or a mind-boggling fact, remember to take it with a grain of salt. After all, a little skepticism can go a long way in discerning truth from fiction, both around the campfire and in our everyday lives. Thanks for reading and, as always, Happy Camping!

These stories are fantastic and I’m eager to share them with our online community! Each submission will be getting posted right here on the Blog!
I’ve finished announcing our ten lucky winners who took larger prizes and now we’re ready to share the rest of the submissions we received. The following post is from Brayden J. who wrote in to tell us his summer experience at Gold Arrow Camp. Check out his submission right here:
“Going into my second year at Gold Arrow Camp, I thought that I would be ‘an old pro’ and not be nervous. But I was wrong. Would my old friends be there, would I make new friends, would I still like it? All of these questions ran through my head. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot and saw my buddy from last year, I knew I would be fine. I saw many old friends, met so many new ones and had the time of my life. We knee boarded, drove motor boats, camped under the stars, did axe throwing and archery and danced away to 80s music. And that was just some of the great things we did. My counselors were the best. I told my parents as soon as they picked me up SIGN ME UP FOR NEXT YEAR!”
Hi, Brayden! I think it was totally normal for you to get a bit jittery about your camp stay this year—even if it wasn’t a totally new experience for you. Camp is a special time in your life that only comes around once a year. That’s great that your summer there was another success with lots of fun activities and great friends.
You can take a closer look at Gold Arrow Camp by visiting their website when you click right here. Maybe it will be where you’re heading in the next summer camp season. Thanks for reading and, as always, Happy Camping!

“My first time to camp was this Summer 2023! I am 9 years old. I went to OTX for 2 weeks and came back feeling like a better, more confident person! Camp gave me so much independence, I gained lots of new friends, grew my connection with God and tried new experiences. I loved the challenge to try new things and got an award for putting lots of different activities in my schedule! My bunk mates were so fun and I am pen pals with one of the girls now—who I will actually go to high school with! My parents let me pick out my trunk & duffel bag. I really liked the organizer and putting pictures in it so I see my family when I first open it up! I can’t wait to go back every summer!”

“My camp has the best food. There’s a canteen where we can go every night to get snacks like candy and ice cream before EVAC (that’s our evening activity) and lots of different choices every day in the dining hall. But the very best food we have at camp once is a week are the CINNAMON BUNS!! They’re so good and huge. I always eat way too many of them and don’t regret it.
