Fall Fun

Hey there, Fall Folks!

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Fall season (as the climate varies rather dramatically across our lovely country), this is the time of year when the leaves lose their green color and shift to a yellow, brown, orange, red, or even purple kind of color. After that they fall from the trees below to carpet the ground and blow distant in the wind.Leaves fall from the trees this time of season. It's the coolest part about fall!

Wisconsinites like all of us here at Everything Summer Camp (located in Boyd, WI) have grown accustomed to the pretty fall season, but never forget what a beautiful part of the cycle this season is! The colors are so vibrant and surreal. It’s fun to go tramping through these colorful, crunching fallen leaves. Autumn speaks loudly.

The fact that these leaves turn amazing colors and fall from their branches means that they’ve died, of course. As the temperature cools and the earth’s northern hemisphere moves away from the sun, the leaves are no longer getting the amount of sunlight they need to perform processes that are essential to their life (like photosynthesis).

Photosynthesis is the process in which leaves and other plant life obtain that lively green color. The same way that animals eat food to get their energy, leaves feast on sunlight. When the leaves don’t get enough sunlight, they can no longer obtain the energy they need for survival. But despite the certain doom this spells for leaves and other plant life, it makes for a stunningly beautiful season.

Accompanying today’s Blog post, we’ll be sharing our own fall pictures with all of you. Check out the beautiful, changing environment surrounding us here in northern Wisconsin. We hope they fill you with as much awe and inspiration as they do us. We truly do live in a beautiful world!

Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Time to hit the ol’, dusty trail…

Hey, Happy Hikers!

Summer’s on its way out, but it’s not over yet! Make the best of the rest and enjoy the outdoors as much as you can! I’ve been offering ideas for outdoor activities in the month of September—last Monday, I pointed out that it’s perfect campfire weather and the Monday before that I suggested apple-picking.

Idea #3: Going on a Hike. Nothing hits the spot like an adventurous conGoing for a hike is one activity that makes you feel great almot instantly afterward.stitutional amongst the fading foliage. So strap on your trail shoes, get out there, and breathe in the crisp, autumnal air.

There are lots of things you can do to make a hike a really good time. We have a slew of hiking gear here at Everything Summer Camp to help you enjoy your outing to its max. From hiking boots to water bottles, backpacks, and Hydration packs, we’ve got everything you need.

Another thing to keep in mind for your hike is your company. I like to share hikes with a good friend or two. The more the merrier! So round up a good group and hit the trail together.

It’s smart to bring a snack along too. Apples and bananas are nice, easy treats that require no real prep work, yet they’re very satisfying. If you know you’ll be out for a longer time, pack a sandwich and trail mix too. Picnicking is fun out in the woods or a park just off the trail.

As the summer season comes to an end, the green disappears from the leaves and they fall to the ground. At least, that’s what happens here in northern Wisconsin. It’s fun to spot cool-looking leaves and collect the ones you really like.

Hiking gets your blood pumping and makes you feel good. Prepare your own journey and get the most out of your hikes. Thanks for reading, Hikers.

Little CHEESE with that burger?

Posted on

Hey, Burger Buffs!

There’s lots of different ways to fancy up a good ol’ fashioned burger. Some people like pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Some people say ketchup. Others swear by mustard. Sometimes there’s bacon and sometimes there’s French fries. But the most basic topping that pretty much everybody is in agreement about…is cheese. The cheeseburger is an unparalleled hurdle in burger evolution.

Who isn't a sucker for this most delicious and American of American foods?

Which is exactly why we celebrate National Cheeseburger Day yesterday! There’s something magical about this ingredient. Most popular of cheeses is processed cheese, but also frequently used are Cheddar, Swiss  Cheese, Mozzarella, Blue Cheese, and (my personal favorite) Pepper Jack.

There’s a good number of people who have tried to take claim as the inventor of the cheeseburger. It’s more than possible that multiple people from different areas started adding cheese, and, thinking they were the only ones to have done it, called themselves the inventor! Adding cheese became popular in the late-20’s to mid-30’s.

One Lionel Sternberger is said to have done it the earliest, in 1926 when he was just 16 years old, working at his dad’s sandwich shop, ‘The Rite Spot,’ in Pasadena, California. He’s said to have “experimentally dropped a slab of American Cheese on a sizzling hamburger.”

The first appearance of a Cheeseburger on a menu in a restaurant is in 1928 at O’Dell’s in Los Angeles. This restaurant served a Cheeseburger smothered in chili that cost the customer only 25 cents!

There are other contenders, but like I said, it isn’t that unlikely that multiple people started doing the same thing around the same time—especially something as simple as topping a burger with cheese. After all, it just makes sense!

We all love cheeseburgers here at Everything Summer Camp. How much do you love this most American of American foods? Celebrate Cheeseburger Day belatedly if you didn’t do it yesterday and, as always, thanks for reading.
