The Amazing Entrepreneur: Jennifer Adams Bunkers

Posted on

Hey, Camp Fans!

Today I want to tell you about the one, the only, the founder of TruKid, Jennifer Adams Bunkers. This incredible entrepreneur had a dream and then made it a reality with nothing more than a considerate thought and her own hard work.

When Jennifer, a mother of six, mind you, discovered that two of her kids had gotten into her wrinkle cream and applied it to themselves as a joke, she got it in her head that a cream that’s used to wipe the wrinkles off your face probably isn’t the safest product for children to be messing with.Tru Kid Sunny Days Sport Stick

And that made her realize further that there wasn’t much on the market for children’s products for skin care, hair care, or baby-safe sunscreen. Since everything else that was out there was all filled to the brim with a bunch of chemicals that nobody can pronounce or had an unpleasant odor.

After that, she decided she would concoct skin and hair care products that weren’t only safe for children to use but fun for them too. Her one hundred percent natural, essential oils, shampoos, sunblock, and other products come packaged with educational activities that help teach your kids about taking care of their skin, the hair on their head, and the world they live in.Tru Kid Sunny Days Sport 2oz

One might think that Jennifer must be Wonder Woman in her alter ego’s everyday disguise to be such an amazing entrepreneur and a mother of six. But really she’s just prone to handling stressful and chaotic situations. She’s doing something that she loves to do which makes it all worth it to her at the end of the day.

In the coming fall season, Jennifer intends to launch the TruKid Foundation™, an organization for kids, by kids to create a focus on charity work in the Bay Area. This includes product donations, outreach activities, and educational projects.

Singing the praises of Summer Camp: Lisa Loeb

Posted on

Hey, Summer Campers!

It’s time for another celebrity at summer camp blog post where you learn all about your favorite big names. Today I’m going to tell you about Lisa Loeb, an excellent singer/songwriter and actress who started out as a summer camper just like yourselves!

Lisa attended Camp Champions, a fun-filled boys and girls camp just outside Austin Texas where she remembers quite fondly sitting around a campfire or close to the water and singing fun, camp songs such as “Peanut, Peanut Butter and Jelly”. She had so much fun doing it as a kid that she basically turned it into her career!Get a load of this hurdy gurdy woman.

By the age of twenty-six, Lisa’s musical career was in full swing after she released the song “Stay (I Missed You)” in 1994. Among her five studio CDs are her major label debut, Tails and the album’s Grammy-nominated follow-up Firecracker—both of which are gold-selling albums.

Aside from her musical career, Lisa has worked in film too, as well as voice-over work, and television, but above all else, she really seems to gravitate toward children’s music! You can see in her concerts that she truly enjoys performing songs that she used to sing her days at summer camp.

About five years ago, she released the awesome Camp Lisa under her own record label, Furious Rose Productions. On this album you’ll find twenty-one songs, both camp classics as well as originals performed by Lisa along with—among other guest performers—funnyman (and banjo master), Steve Martin.

Five years before Camp Lisa she released Catch the Moon with Elizabeth Mitchell. And most recently, she has put out her first joint children’s book and album, Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs in 2011.

It’s pretty easy to see that summer camp meant a lot to Lisa Loeb. What will it mean to you? Thanks for reading, Camp Folks!

Sleeping Bags are all the Same...Right?

Posted on

Hey, Camp Preppers!

I hope you’re getting more and more excited as the summer camp season draws near! In preparation, you may be looking for the right sleeping bag for your camper; and, in doing so, you may be finding it confusing to know just which kind of sleeping bag will be best—what with how many different types of sleeping bags there are.

When it comes down to a sleeping-bag, we’ve got everything you could want…which doesn’t exactly make it easy to decide on the one that’s just right for your camper. Read on and you can use this post as a guide to helping you narrow your sights on the appropriate kids sleeping bags for your kids’ camp stay.

Kelty_Ignite_dridown_40_openYour first decision will come down to the style of sleeping bag. Here you have two options: you can go with the traditional Rectangle Style Bag or you can go with the Mummy Style.

For a longer camp stay that guarantees some night’s spent under the stars, a mummy style sleeping bag is what you’re looking for. It’s shape will naturally keep it warmer inside and its better equipped to protect your camper against the elements.

If your kid’s camp stay is a week long, however, and isn’t going to involve much actual camping, the traditional rectangular style sleeping bag will do just fine. It’s better for a restless sleeper as well who tosses and turns throughout the night.

Your next decision arrives at temperature ratings. Know the weather forecast forexxel-outdoors-cub-youth-sleeping-bag-pinkandblue your camper’s camp stay. How cool is it going to get? The temperature ratings let you know how cool of a night it’s intended to handle. If the nights are pretty cold, you’ll want to look for a lower rating.

Next, you’ll want to give some thought toward using synthetic material or real down. Though more expensive, real down is typically your better option. It’s light, highly compressible, and long-lasting. It holds its loft longer than synthetic down and maintains its insulation well over time.

A sleeping bag made with Synthetic Insulation is going to be bigger and it’s going to be heavier. Synthetic Insulation doesn’t absorb water making it a great choice for campers who plans on roughin’ it rain or shine. These bags are also less expensive than sleeping bags made with Real Down.

Lastly, you need to decide if you want a regular size sleeping bag or one that expands from a youth size sleeping bag to and adult. An expandable twelve inches at the end of the bag ensures that your camper won’t be outgrowing this bag any time soon!

That’s all for today, Camp Fans. Hope this helped clarify which type of sleeping bag would be best for your camper! And, as always, thanks for reading!
