Jacked About Juggling!

Posted on

Hey, Cool Campers!

The number one reason for kids to go to summer camp is to have fun! And camps are really good at showing kids a fun time! Most camps offer somewhere between 50 and 100 activities! Some activities are an outlet for your sense of adventure while others indulge your quieter side to enjoy a simple activity that provides a creative outlet. And today’s activity definitely falls under the latter category.

Today, I’m talking about Juggling!

Juggling is documented in Ancient Egyptian paintings on tomb walls that date back as far as 4,000 years! Juggling is a skill that’s been passed down from generation to generation! So far, it’s made it four millennia! Who knows how long it will last?! It’s had its dips and spikes in popularity throughout history. Following a long lull from the court jester days, Juggling came back in a very big way as a part of the act in Vaudeville song and dance shows.

To learn the art of Juggling requires patience, determination, focus, and just a bit of direction. It’s easier to start with two Juggling balls instead of the traditional three, but the concepts are basically the same. If you’re going to attempt three, you want to start with two Juggling balls in your dominant hand and one in the other—otherwise one in each hand if you’re just starting with two.

Starting with your dominant hand, toss one Juggling ball about eye level and when that ball reaches the apex—the height of the toss, throw the ball from your other hand underneath the arch of the ball that’s airborne. Catch each ball as they come down in the respective hand and repeat. It’s that simple. But it takes days of practice to achieve the muscle memorization and fluidity.

I can say from experience, though—the time spent is well worth it! Juggling sharpens your concentration and, once you have the motions down, can be very therapeutic! See if your camp offers Juggling for their activities and, as always, thanks for reading!

Reese LOUISE!!

Hey, Reese Fans!

And who isn’t a fan of Reese Witherspoon?  We definitely are here at Everything Summer Camp—after all, Reese was a summer camper herself back in the day! I posted about this beloved actress and how she attended Camp Monterey. I disclosed that information on the last Blog post I wrote about Reese from a number of years ago.

You can read the previous Blog post I wrote about her by clicking right here. Reese Witherspoon went to summer camp when she was young.Since it’s been so long since her last post, I thought we could revisit Reese to get to know her a little bit better.

Looking up to Dolly

Reese grew up in Nashville, Tennessee as well as her childhood hero: Dolly Parton. Reese would dream from a young age of someday becoming an entertainer of some sorts. After talking the only commercial agent in Nashville into representing her as a high schooler, Reese went out for a casting call for 1991’s ‘The Man in the Moon’—her film debut.

Reese Bookworm Witherspoon

Reese is a nerd!—a book nerd! And I mean that 100% as a compliment! The word ‘nerd’ doesn’t hold the same negative connotation that it once did and Reese definitely fits the bill. Reese actually has her own production company in which she attains the rights to books and turns them into movies (you know, every author’s dream)!

Not Least is Easter!

She offered the information in an interview with Vogue Magazine that her favorite holiday is Easter. With this holiday approaching soon, I thought I’d share her enjoyment of family time spent hiding plastic eggs on one another and gathering for a special meal.

We love the down-to-earth, family feel that Reese exudes. I hope these facts were new for all of you as well about a wonderful actress and former summer camper. If you have interest in checking out her old stomping grounds at Camp Monterey, give them a closer look some time. And, as always, thanks for reading.

Braelyn W. Goes Camping Too

Hey, Camp Fans!

With  response as large as we got to our annual ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest at Everything Summer Camp, we’re still publishing each submission here on the Blog! Your stories are fantastic and it’s been such a fun time reading through them! Here’s another one to enjoy right now!

Today’s post comes from Braelyn W. who wrote in to tell us about his really fun camp stay at Pine Cove Towers Camp. Get a look at today’s submission from Braelyn himself: Get a look at this camper submission.

For camp this summer, I went to Pine Cove Towers for a whole week! It is in Tyler, Texas. It took us about two hours to get there. The reason Pine Cove is the best camp ever is because the counselors get to teach you about God and Jesus our Savior. It is cool, awesome, and exciting; because you get to do all different activities and have different theme nights (One of our theme nights was Pitch Black Attack)! You also get quiet time – called FOB (Flat On Back) and mail from your parents.

Monday was my favorite day and it was a really fun! My friends and I jumped on the blob and flew up and down! (The blob is a giant inner tube that you jump on in the water.) Sometimes if three people made it on the Blob without flying off, we would have a blob war! A blob war is when you try to push your friends into the water – but the funny thing is – if you push someone, you fall in too! After the blob, we got to do fishing and I caught 4 fish! My sister, Jewel, caught a fish first! When a fish tugged and tugged on my pole, I felt proud when I saw it come out of the water! After fishing, we did B-B guns. Then we did Tea Time at the Rock. The Rock is where we eat and we also do theme nights there. At Tea time we danced and had a talent show, and we were able to make bracelets and drink juice and had cookies, it was really fun! Finally we went to the Hydroplane. The Hydroplane is a giant waterslide that goes into the pool. It is really fast! You go so fast you feel like you are going to hit the blob!

Everyone should go to Towers! It is for first through fifth grade, and it is Amazing!!!

Braelyn, your time at camp sounds like it was an absolute blast! The blob must have been a really fun time along with a number of other water activities. Congratulations to Jewel on her first fish! I’m guessing water activities are your number one favorite thing to do at camp since Monday was the best day for you! Pine Cove Towers sounds like a really great place—thanks for sharing, Braelyn. If anyone else is interested in Pine Cove Camp for their next summer adventure, be sure to check them out some time and, as always, thanks for reading!
