When You Wish Upon our Site

Posted on

Hey, Camp Wishers!

The Internet presents a world of online shops that aren’t necessarily geared so much to kids in terms of navigation or comprehension and children are typically discouraged from doing any shopping online.  But shopping isn’t just for the adults when you come to our website here at Everything Summer Camp. In fact, we recommend that kids peruse our online store themselves!

After all, sometimes they know best what camping gear they need to pick up, what they need more of, and what worked best from previous years.

Here at Everything Summer Camp, kids are welcome to pick out the things they think they need and they can put it all on the Wishlist tool on our site. Shop around for the gear and all the fun stuff we have without actually buying anything!

Our Wishlist tool works like a glorified catalog online! Instead of paging through a printed catalog and ‘circling’ all the goodies you find, simply click ‘Add to Wishlist’ on the product page of all the products you want. Beyond that, you can save your personalized designs for Trunks, Lid Skinz, Labels, Name Plax, Laundry Bags, and a bunch of other customizable products available on our website.

After you create your account with our website, you can save your Wishlist whenever you please. Hop on our site later on and continue adding to your list! You can even share your Wishlist with others so they can check out everything you picked out and maybe, if you play your cards right, they’ll treat you to a piece of gear or two—maybe your parents or Grandma and Grandpa perhaps (hint, hint).

Have a blast as you browse our website and collect all the gear you want to get on our handy Wishlist! Happy shopping and, as always, thanks for reading!

What was up Reeve's Sleeves

Posted on

Hey, Summer Camp Fans!

More than five years ago, I posted on this Blog about the man of steel. You know, the guy who dresses in the blue suit and the red cape. You know…*Ahem*…Clark. Kent. In case you’re not picking up what I’m putting down, let me spell it out for you. I’m talking about Superma—I mean…Christopher Reeve.

In his previous post, we learned that Christopher went to camp along Squam Lake amidst the White Mountains of New Hampshire at Camp Deerwood. But we only scratched the surface in that last Blog post. Let’s dig a little deeper and talk some more about former summer camper Christopher Reeve right now:

Super (skinny) Man
Chris was rejected time and again by the casting director for the role of Superman. He had a good look and he played the part well, but the chief reason for his rejections was his weight. At a mere 170 lbs., they dismissed him three times over. He was tall, but he was a string bean. He couldn’t possibly be Superman, they thought. But Chris eventually won them over as they came to realize that, while he wasn’t bulky enough yet, they could bulk him up.

Superman gets Beefed up by Darth Vader
Chris went through a rigorous bodybuilding regime in order to acquire the shredded body like Superman. In walks his training supervisor: David Prowse. Queue the ‘Imperial Death March’. David Prowse is the actor wearing the dark suit of the Sith Lord Darth Vader from the original Star Wars trilogy. A rather hulking presence himself, David Prowse whipped Christopher right into shape, helping him bulk up from 170 pounds to 212 by the time they began filming!

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s…a Hang Glider
With the film’s tagline being “You’ll believe a man can fly,” it was important to the filmmakers that the flying scenes were convincing. Chris, being an experienced hang glider, brought his familiarity with the feeling of flying through the air to the screen. Even so, they spent $2 million dollars just failed flying tests.

What a life when you get to play Superman on the big screen! Unfortunately, Chris’ life was cut rather short. He passed away at the young age of 52 after a spinal cord injury caused complications. His indomitable spirit lives on as his determination can still inspire us today! Get your own summer camp experience. Check out Camp Deerwood by clicking here and, as always, thanks for reading!

For a Smile that POPS...

Posted on

Hey, Brushers!

Maintaining your pearly whites is important stuff! Not only do we feel our best when our smile is its whitest, but dental hygiene has been linked to well-being in areas beyond your chompers, such as heart-health. A domestic habit like brushing your teeth can be difficult to keep up with when you’re away from home, so we always aim to carry products that make brushing throughout our travels as convenient as can be. So, who just popped onto the scene?

It’s Pop-Sonic!

Who’s Pop-Sonic, you ask? Only the creators of the bright, colorful line of top-quality sonic toothbrushes such as the hugely popular Go Sonic travel toothbrush available in a plethora of colors and designs right here at Everything Summer Camp!

Some seriously poppy folks, they couldn’t help themselves but to add some serious POP to your brushing routine with their Go Sonic Toothbrush! For that clean and fresh dental feel, nothing gets the job done quite like this battery-operated toothbrush besides maybe the dentist.

Have your preference between two different vibrating speeds. This brush is smartly programmed to pace your time spent on different areas of your mouth and counts off a two-minute brushing session. The handle is slim, streamlined, and lightweight to make it comfortably handheld!

Simply pop the top cap off and unscrew the bottom where you'll find the port to load the single AAA battery required for this brush's 30,000 brushstrokes-a-minute capability. And the motor on this baby has been designed for an efficient use of energy and long battery life. The compact case is cool, colorful, and makes travel extra convenient!

Built to last, Pop-Sonic never finishes their product design without an intensive testing so they can be sure they’re providing only the highest quality. Get a look at the Go Sonic Toothbrush by clicking here and don’t forget to brush your teeth! As always, thanks for reading.

The Birth of Basketball

Posted on

Hey, Basketball Fanatics!

Basketball is a game of great coordination and skill. From dribbling, to passing, shooting, and dunking, players have been perfecting their performance since the game saw its beginning nearly a decade before the turn of the 17th Century. The game was invented for a new indoor sport, intended to keep the young athletic students of Springfield College active and conditioned during the winter months.

Conceived of in the month of December back in 1891 by the Springfield College instructor, Dr. James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts, he thought a game in which the players threw a ball at a target would be safe enough to play indoors.

He nailed peach baskets to the lower railing of the gymnasium’s balcony at ten feet high on either end of the gym and created some rules. The objective of the game was simple: the team to toss the ball the most times into the basket would win.

The game was originally named as two words—Basket Ball and Dr. James wrote up 13 different rules for his game and that was the birth of Basketball. The game spread and multiplied when some of the students that played the original game grew up and became teachers and coaches themselves. As time went on, popularity went up.

Alterations were made and some rules were tweaked. Dribbling was added as an element of the game as well as the addition of backboards and netting to the 'basket'—which was now just a simple hoop.

Enjoy playing this popular game which is typically found in the activity programs of most summer camps! Also, check out this previous post on the Blog about Michael Jordan and the basketball summer camp that he started—the Michael Jordan Flight School, one of the best youth basketball camps in the world.
