Hey, you Lazy Loafers!

Don’t worry!—I’m not trying to call you out on it. In fact, I’m here to encourage your laziness today! That’s right. Shove your chores aside! Stretch out! Put the recliner back and the footrest up! Today was meant for anyone and everyone who’s ever been bit by the lazy bug or born with a lazy bone; today is National Lazy Day.
This dog is the queen of laze
Unlike my sister’s adorable, but lethargic, Chihuahua—Tilly—National Lazy Day comes just once a year for folks like you and me (at least, only once on such an official level as this). So, just for today, let’s all embrace our laziness and live it up like Tilly and all her apathetic Chihuahua friends.

Tilly doesn't do anything on National Lazy Day!But a day of such lethargy and slothfulness has given me pause and created a dilemma for me. After all, how should a day of such indifference be observed on this Blog? Is it right to advertise and campaign in favor of such languor and inertia? Or does it fly in the face of the very thesis that National Lazy Day stands for?—Inactivity! Inattentiveness! And ABOVE ALL Arrested Productivity!

I apologize…. Allow me to take a step back; I’m getting a little too passionate here for a day like today…

To write today’s post, I first sat down with a focus on the origins of National Lazy Day. I thought we could discover what historical events took place, paving the way for this day to be put into motion. But then, thought, no. That sounds like learning. And learning just sounds like too much work today.

So, then I thought, maybe I’ll compile a list of appropriate ways to display your laziness for today, y’know—sleep in until noon…watch cartoons all day…take a nap. But then I started to worry that lists go hand-in-hand with productivity which is NOT in the spirit of this holiday. I’m here to tell you to relax, not assign you a ‘To-Do’ list (as lazy as it may be).

And so it was that I lazily came to this final conclusion:

There is NOTHING I can say to advocate National Lazy Day without thereby defying it. In other words, enjoy National Lazy Day…y’know…if you feel like it…

As for myself, I’ve decided to simply quit…the Blog, my job, perhaps my personal hygiene—just for today. I’m really gonna do Lazy Day up in style. I’ll seek ouDo or do not. Just whatever you do, don't try!t the true nature of laziness as Luke Skywalker sought out the ways of The Force from the great, Jedi Master, Yoda.… I’ll pursue an apprenticeship for myself under the Master of True Laze herself…Tilly.

Oh yeah—and, y’know, as always, thanks for reading…I guess..

Go back to sleep, I will.

If going to summer camp is cool, then consider me Adam Sandler..

Hey, Campers!

Now that you’re back from summer camp, you probably can’t stop thinking about how much fun it was! You know who else was crazy over camp when he was closer to your age? The great Billy Madison himself—that’s right Adam Sandler was once a summer camper too at a Union for Reform Judaism camp called Eisner Camp.

Located in Western Massachusetts, Adam spent his summer camp experience Adam did some campin'.surrounded by the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, fun and instructive activities, as well as a community of camp friends. It obviously did him some good, spending time in a fresh, new, and natural environment where he was shown that he really could be anything he wanted to be.

So, he became everything he wanted to be. After his graduation from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1988, Adam went on to become a comedian, screenwriter, actor, film producer, entrepreneur, and musician. Alongside other greats like Chris Farley, Adam got a gig on Saturday Night Live (SNL). He rocked the comedy world and quickly showed the world that SNL was only the beginning.

Best known for his roles in hit comedies from the 90’s like ‘Billy Madison,’ ‘Happy Gilmore,’ ‘The Waterboy,’ ‘The Wedding Singer,’ and ‘Big Daddy,’ Adam’s gone on to perform more serious roles later in his career in films like ‘Punch-Drunk Love’ and ‘Reign Over Me’.  Some other career highlights have been The Meyerowitz Stories in 2017, Uncut Gems in 2019, and Hustle in 2022. He did voice work for several characters in Eight Crazy Nights and kids probably know him best for being the voice of Dracula in the Hotel Transylvania movies.

"How come I didn't get to be Willy WONKA?!"

Almost the eccentric candyman, Adam was strongly considered in the early 2000’s to resurrect the role of Willy Wonka (last seen as Gene Wilder) in Tim Burton’s 2005 ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Jim Carrey was also heavily considered before Johnny Depp took the role.

With success of such magnitude, you know summer camp had a hand in helping shape Mr. Sandler somewhere along the way. How can summer camp help shape you? As always, thanks for reading, Camp Fans!

In honor of Rudyard Kipling…

Hey, Camp Fans!

If you’re no rookie to this Blog, then you already know how much we love to give credit where credit is due! Which is exactly why I’m boasting about another one of the awesome camps with whom Everything Summer Camp has the pleasure of knowing—Camp Mowglis, a Summer Camp for Boys ever since 1903.
Get into the Mowglis spirit with this Blog post!Located in the heart of New England on Newfound Lake, a little south of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Camp Mowglis spans 125 acres of pine woods, open fields, and a far-reaching shoreline.

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book,’ the founder of Camp Mowglis, with Kipling’s permission, of course, named programs, facilities, and activities after beloved ‘Jungle Book’ characters. The name Camp Mowglis, in fact, is taken from the man-cub protagonist himself of ‘The Jungle Book’ legend.

Baloo Cove is the Mowglis Cubs’ beach and swimming area. And you can catch your meals in the Dining Hall, attached to the back of the Jungle House. Kipling was so touched by the inspiration caused by his own story that he kept in contact with Camp Mowglis and was always interested in the development and good times generated by the camp.

During a typical day at Camp Mowglis, the campers have a structured day consisting of their own chosen ‘Industries’—which is Mowglis for ‘activities’. A seven-week camp season provides a lot of time for learning new skills that span a broad range across the physical, mental, and spiritual realms.

The Industries, including Archery, Arts & Crafts, Axemanship, Camping, Canoeing, Crew, Kayaking, Drama, Hiking, Riflery, Rowboating, Sailing, Swimming, Photography,Ttennis, Weather, Windsurfing, Woodworking, and more are all taught in small groups by staff members who have an expertise in their particular industry. After choosing their industries, the campers then work toward achieving ‘ribbons’ or ‘husky marks’ in acknowledgment of their accomplishments.

Hiking trips in the White Mountains give boys the chance to develop an appreciation for the outdoors and provide them with opportunities that teach them team work and group cooperation.
Boys will be boys at Camp Mowglis.Camp Mowglis is an awesome camp where “boys are given the opportunity to be boys, but also to become young men.” Check it out for yourself right here and, as always, thanks for reading.

What's on Mark's Mind?

Hey, Facebookers!

If you’re like nearly 60% of the U.S. population, then you likely have an account on Facebook. Y’know—Facebook, as in Facebook.com—the popular online social networking website that allows users with accounts to create profiles for themselves (as an online identity), upload pictures and videos, send messages to ‘friends’, and keep in touch relatives and colleagues whom you have ‘friended’ through the site.

Today’s Celebrity at Summer Camp Blog post focuses on someone we all know, but he isn’t the star of any movies, the member of any band, the athlete on any sports team, nor is he an artist, writer, or comic. Mark Zuckerberg is the creator of Facebook. He’s been coined an Internet Entrepreneur thanks to his wild success with Facebook. And wouldn’t you know it—he went to summer camp too!Get the word about this human's time at summer camp.

Island Lake Camp is located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. This picturesque camp is set on 550 acres that includes two large lakes where their many water sports are played. They have lots of trails too for their Equestrian, Mountain Biking, and Pioneering programs.

Interested in computers from a young age, his father taught him basic programming when he was in middle school. His advanced understanding got him some attention in his high school days. Jose Vargas, a writer who interviewed the young Mark Zuckerberg noted, “Some kids played computer games. Mark created them.”

With the help of roommates and friends during his time at Harvard University, Mark launched Facebook. At the time Facebook was only setup to network among Harvard’s dormitories. But its popularity quickly spread to surrounding campuses and soon stretched nationwide. As of three years ago, the number of Facebook users worldwide reached 1 billion. Mark became a billionaire by the age of 23.

Summer camp, no doubt, helped Mark somewhere along the way. How will summer camp help you?
