A Woodsy Camp Stay

Posted on

Hey, Camp Fans!

There are more stories to share from the Everything Summer Camp ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest! Your camp stories were so great and were such a fun time reading through them all and now I’m excited to share them with all our readers online! We’re posting each submission right here on the Blog one by one!

We had ten lucky prize winners for this contest and since then I’ve been publishing the rest of your submissions. The following post is from Aurelia D. who wrote in to us about her time at Camp Woodland for Girls. Here it is:

“I go to camp Woodland for Girls in Eagle River Wisconsin for 6-weeks in the summer. I just completed 3rd grade and this summer was my second summer as a camper. My mom used to be a counselor at this camp when she was younger. I have so many fun memories from camp but my favorite is Camper Council. Camper council is when a cabin plans and executes an evening activity for the rest of the camp. My cabin, Tamarack, read bedtime stories to the younger cabins. We read Little Red Riding Hood. Olivia acted out the story as we were reading it. It was really funny and the campers loved it!”

Wow, Aurelia! Six weeks is a long time away from home! That’s great that you love Camp Woodland so much—and how great that you have a connection with the camp through your mom. I love your memory of Camper Council. The bedtime stories sounds like a really sweet idea. Also, I’ve always been a big Little Red Riding Hood fan.

Emeric's Evening

Hey, Camp Fans!

It was great to read all the camper submissions we received this year for our ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest at Everything Summer Camp. I’m happy to share them with our online community and post each submission right here on the Blog! Besides our ten lucky prize winners, all other entrants received a $20 gift certificate to our online store and get their story published on the Blog, one at a time!

Today’s post is from Emeric D., who wrote in to tell us about his primitive camp experience at Towering Pines Camp. Check out his submission right here:

“I’ve been going to camp since I was 6. This year was my 4th year at Towering Pines in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Camp is my favorite place on earth; I wait all year to meet up again with my camp friends and do my activities, things I don’t get to do anywhere else like sailing, wakeboarding, or skin diving. This year, my favorite camp memory was when our cabin turned into cave men for an evening. First, we took our shirts and shoes off and put coal on our faces. Then, we did our cabin cookout and cooked hot dogs over the open fire. Next, we went into a full on war between cabins. We tried to capture cabin counselors and bring them to our base. It was really fun. We ended the evening with a soap dip in the lake in our underwear.”

Hey, Emeric! How great to hear that you have been returning to camp for so many years! No wonder you keep going back with all the fun stuff you mentioned in your submission. Caveman evening sounds like a really funny night. And your Capture the Cabin Counselor game sounds like a legitimately good game! Like Capture-the-Flag but with humans—cabin counselor humans.

How'd Camp Go, Zo'?

Hey, Camp Fans!

Your camp stories were great this year! It was lots of fun to read through them all and now I’m excited to share them with all our readers online! We’re posting each submission right here on the Blog! Since I’ve finished announcing our ten lucky winners who took larger prizes, I’ve moved on to everyone else who got a $20 gift certificate as a show of our appreciation.

The following post is from Zoe V. who wrote in about her summer days at Camp Pinewood in North Carolina! Here’s what she wrote:

“My name is Zoe and I am 9 years old. This summer I attended Camp Pinewood in North Carolina. It was my first time being away from home and as we were packing for camp, I felt a lot of different emotions. I was excited for new adventures. I was looking forward to going horseback riding and water skiing. I was also nervous I would be homesick. We drove to camp and my parents hugged me goodbye. As I walked away, all of my nervous energy disappeared. Everyone was so friendly. The counselors and staff were super nice and I felt safe and happy. I loved all my bunk mates and we all got along great. I did so many amazing things like horseback riding, water skiing, tubing, zip lining, and more. The session went by so quickly, and I had an amazing time. I cannot wait until I go back next year! I love camp so much!”

That’s great to hear, Zoe! Congratulations on going to your first year at camp—not to mention your first time away from home. It’s funny how the anticipation for something is almost always worse than the actual experience itself. In this case, it sounds like the fun and friendly environment at Camp Pinewood didn’t give you much chance to feel homesick. It’s wonderful that you got to try so many cool, new things! No wonder you can’t wait to go back!

For everyone else, you can give Camp Pinewood a closer look. Check it out for yourself by clicking here and, as always, thanks for reading!

Sarah's Time Down by the Bay

Hey, Camp Fans!

We were delighted to see such a great response to our ‘Share Your Camp Story’ Contest here at Everything Summer Camp and now we’re eager to publish each one right here on the Blog! After our seven lucky winners, everyone else who submitted received a $20 gift certificate to our online store!

Today’s post is from Sarah W. who attended Bay Shore Camp and Ministries in Huron County, Michigan. Check out her submission on why camp was so great!

“Bay Shore Camp is not only a wonderful place, nestled right on the Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron. Every summer since I was a young child in kindergarten, I attended the age group camp. My brothers did as well. Day 1, we came in, nervous and excited rolled together. The counselors cheered for us as we walked out of the Family center, and then we met our counselors for the week. Typical camps would last around a week, filled with activity and more. My favorite parts were: learning about God, worshiping Him, and screaming praise in the Tabernacle at the top of our lungs, meeting new friends and people even though I was shy, and the zip line; eating delicious food which was prepped by the fantastic kitchen staff, and small group sessions each night before bed. Memories of laughter, and cry night (where God became very real to us and many got saved!), and the last day hugs and baptism fill my head. As a counselor, my favorite part of camp, nights lasted until early morning. Eating chocolate just to stay awake at counselor sessions. Tucking the precious kids into bed every night. Kayaking on the lake and crazy games in the pool. Pouring out my heart for the kids and to Christ kept me going, but I made lasting friendship and my friends became family. And Christ was the center of it all!”

Wonderful, Sarah! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I’m glad you’ve had such a great camp experience throughout your youth and that the memories are still being made in your time as a counselor. Sounds like Bay Shore Camp has been a great foundation for you that has blessed you with fond relationships with other campers, yourself, and God.

If Bay Shore Camp and Ministries sounds like it could be the right place for you, check it out for yourself by clicking here. As always, thanks for reading!
