Cecilia M.!

Congratulations, Cecilia! You’re getting $100 for our one-stop camping gear shop coming your way! Some fun was certainly had at Camp Nakanawa. Read her account of summer camp right here:

This summer I went away to sleep away camp for the first time. I was there for a whole month!! My name is Cecilia, I am 8 years old and I live just outside of Washington, D.C. Camp Nakanawa is a girls' camp in Crossville, Tennessee. I had a lot of fun this year! My favorite activities were swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, and archery. A few other things I like about camp are that we wear blue shorts and white shirts and on Sundays we wear all white. I was one of the youngest campers in camp. I was in Cabin #1. We had 4 campers in our cabin and one counselor. Sara was a great counselor. Lucy was my best friend this summer. Lucy's mom went to the same camp with my mom!! Lucy is fun, silly, and wonderful. There is a pond in nature class. One of the fish in the pond died. Lucy picked up the dead fish and squished it. Then she said, ‘Cecilia, I dare you to squish that dead fish!’ I put my hand close to that dead fish but I wasn't sure I wanted to touch it. Then all of the sudden, Lucy smacked my hand on the dead fish. Ugh, it felt slimy and lifeless. Lucy and I laughed till we had to go to tennis class. While I was at camp, I got sick. I had a high fever and had to spend two nights in the infirmary with Nurse Sarah. She was great. She let one of the camp dogs, Ellie, come into the infirmary and hang out with me for a while. While I was in the infirmary, my friends made me cards and brought me things to do. Lucy made me a card that had some playing cards attached to it. Lucy and I liked to play cards together a lot in our cabin. I miss Lucy and can't wait until we are back together again at camp next summer. Camp Nakanawa is the best! I don't want to start school next week!!—I'd rather be at camp.

Awesome, Cecilia! It’s lousy to get sick during your stay at camp, but it sounds like your friends at Nakanawa did a good job at cheering you up at least. And it’s good that you didn’t miss out on ALL the fun at camp! Lucy sounds like a good friend—but a bit of a stinker! I wouldn’t want to touch a squished dead fish. I hope camp only gets better in your summers to come! To anybody else interested in Camp Nakanawa, be sure to check them out for yourself. And tune in tomorrow when we reveal the next $100 winner! As always, thanks for reading!
