Comforts of Home

Posted on

Be sure to include some of the comforts of home. Pack your kiddo’s special snacks to share with bunk mates, small stack of favorite books and an MP3 player. These comforts will not only make them feel at home, but also give them some things to share with their bunkmates.

Make Packing Lists for Your Camper

Posted on

When packing your trunk, complete a packing list! Put an empty checkmark next to each item packed and send it to camp inside the trunk along with a pen. When it’s time to pack up and come home, they can use this handy list to go over everything they repack and make sure they aren’t leaving anything important behind.

Separate Essential Items From Optional Items

Posted on

When unpacking at camp, separate the daily use items from optional equipment like sleeping bags, sports equipment etc. keep the items your child will in frequently use stored in the trunk underneath their bunk. this ensures there’s plenty of space for all the basic items they’ll need and lead to less overwhelm when looking for specific things.

Communicate During the Packing Process

Posted on

To help your nervous camper prepare for camp, engage him or her in the packing process. This opens up a great opportunity to talk to your child about their feelings while they get ready. And if your kiddo is not ready to share feelings, you can ask positive questions about what they’re most looking forward to doing when they get there.

Separate Clothes Using Packing Cubes

Posted on

When packing your trunk, use packing cubes! Separating clothes into separate cubes makes it so easy for your kids to find what they need quickly. When packing for my son, I like to fold matching outfits together inside of my largest cube. That way he figures out what matches during the first week of camp without having to coordinate on his own and can repeat the same outfit combinations after laundry day.
